Mental Health

The Cure to Every Difficulty: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf4Myjvn5HY/?taken-by=ahmadianswers

  • Allah Promises us twice, so never doubt:
Surely there is ease after hardship, Aye, surely there is ease after hardship. (Chapter 94 Verses 6-7)

We all go through trials. Before I explain how to attain happiness and comfort during these trials, I want to make one thing clear. We should never lose faith in God because of trials. Hadhrat Ahmad(as) once said that if you are not being trialed, you should be worried because it means you have fallen so deep into sin that Allah has forgotten about me. The Holy Prophet(saw) said when Allah Loves someone, He trials them. Never forget that Allah does Indeed love you. Allah States:” And if my servant draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw near to him a cubit, and if he draws near to Me a cubit, I draw near to him a fathom. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed”

In this world, we have family and friends. However, sometimes we forget that we have someone Much Greater, and that is our Creator, Allah. He is Always with us no matter what happens. All we need to do is Ask for His Help. Now I come to the cure to trials. Some people are trialed more than others. Sometimes, our lives are so smooth for years, and then all of a sudden we face a huge trial, which makes life difficult. However, if we follow these steps and establish a relationship with Allah from an early age, we will be protected for our entire lives. –
    Hadhrat Ahmad(as) states:
Always remember that whenever an affliction befalls you, immediately stand in prayer & present those afflictions openly to Allah because indeed He exists. No one can help you except Him; people turn to lawyers and doctors but a believer is he who turns to Allah first. (Malfuzat)

I will now share the cure to trials by Hadhrat Ahmad(as) and this method has worked for millions. There are two steps to this amazing method and trust me we must all follow these steps and we will attain such comfort in sha Allah that it will be as if we just got a new life. –
In comments, you will find the full method of Hadhrat Ahmad (as) from Quran and sunnah to help you in time of the worst difficulties.
  • The first step:
Hadhrat Ahmad(as) explained that after every prayer read 11 times
لاحول ولا قوۃ الا باللّٰہ العلی العظیم
Before sleeping daily, after Isha prayers, read durood shareef 41 times and two rakat prayers and in every sajdah at least three times read يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ (Hadhrat Ahmad(as) got this from the ahadith of the Prophet(saw). It is narrated:
    Anas bin Malik said:
“Whenever a matter would distress him, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say: ‘O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief (Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth). and then do salaam of your prayers.
Pray for yourself a lot, this is the key to happiness.
  • The second step which we must do daily is in the following narration:
Mian Khair -ud-din sahib said once the Promised Messiah (as) said: What are worries? If one prays tahajud for ten days, no matter how big the worries are, God will solve them. Surely, Allah has the power to do all that He wills.
But we must remember that Allah does not only require us to pray. Health is key and we must take care of our diet, exercise routine and stay away from all negativity. We must remain with the righteous and keep a good company of friends who enjoin good, and forbid evil. I pray that Allah protects us all, and removes our trials from us. We must remember that most people when trialed, run towards the world and they are never satisfied. Our goal is to run towards God and see His miracles.

Mental Illness and Islam : https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj5gJItgJKt/?taken-by=ahmadianswers

  • Alhamdulillah nowadays mental illness is getting a lot more attention and this is a great step which many people had ignored for a really long time. However, the Prophets and Khulafa never ignored it and always taught us the best ways to approach mental illness. The problem is that when many see someone with a mental illness, they assume that they are far from Allah and have low faith, when this is not the case. There is a difference between normal stress and mental illness as well which should be kept in mind. There are many forms of mental illness which include anxiety disorders, depression and bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and even suicidal thoughts. To say that one cannot go through these if they have faith in God is completely wrong. However, having a mental illness is possible even for those who are religious. In fact, I personally have known people who, despite being religious, had a mental illness. –
The Holy Prophet (saw) is our greatest model. A lady came to the Prophet (saw) and told him she has a condition and loses control and that she needs a prayer. The Prophet (saw) said you have one of two options. I can ask Allah for a cure or you can be patient on your illness and for you is paradise. The amazing thing is that the Prophet (saw) acknowledged her illness and told her to be patient. He never said they had low imaan in response.

    It is narrated in Bukhari:
Ibn `Abbas said to me, “Shall I show you a woman of the people of Paradise?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “This black lady came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, ‘I get attacks of epilepsy and my body becomes uncovered; please invoke Allah for me.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to her), ‘If you wish, be patient and you will have (enter) Paradise; and if you wish, I will invoke Allah to cure you.’ She said, ‘I will remain patient,’ and added, ‘but I become uncovered, so please invoke Allah for me that I may not become uncovered.’ So he invoked Allah for her.” (Sahih Bukhari)
  • The Prophet (saw) has also allowed medicine for sicknesses:

Jabir reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.(Sahih Muslim)

The Qur’an tells us to go to the people of knowledge, and in this case a psychiatrist can be visited as physical help along with prayers is also important. 1/4 people are diagnosed with some sort of mental illness in their life according to the world health organization. Mental illness has many forms and all mental illnesses can be treated. It’s not a choice. No one wants to be ill. In the same way cancer and other diseases are treated, this disease should also be treated. –
At the same time, we should not undermine the beauty of Islam. Along with treatment, having faith in Allah and praying for the cure is also important, and this is the case with any sickness. However, treatment should be used as that is also from God. Prayer and recitation of the Qur’an can bring a lot of comfort for those who are stressed but at the same time Allah and the Prophet (saw) taught us to get help from those of knowledge which is key for those who have mental illness. –
In the end I pray for all the Muslims and non Muslims suffering from any sort of illness and that they are granted a complete recover. Mental illness can be treated and professional health should be sought.

Islamic View on Suicide: https://www.instagram.com/p/BevsRTunm1M/?taken-by=ahmadianswers

  • Many often raise questions about suicide. This is such a emotional topic and should be dealt with in a matter of love. If we know someone who has such thoughts, we have to show them love and get the Islamic view to them, and at the same time help them. Qur’an and ahadith make it clear that we must pray , but also tie our camel. The only way one can find true comfort of the heart, is in the remembrance of Allah. We need to realize that the trials will come, but we need to use these trials to get closer to Allah rather than further.

Allah has completely forbidden suicide. Allah has made it clear that suicide is a sin which will never be forgiven. The Holy Prophet(saw) stated:
    Narrated Abu Huraira-:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the Hell Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the Hell-Fire.” (Sahih Bukhari)

The ahadith show us that those who kill themselves with a weapon, will have that weapon thrusting them on their stomach forever (meaning a long long time). It is also said about those who use poison, that they would sip that poison for a really long time in the hereafter. He who kills himself from falling off of something, would constantly fall in the hellfire. –

  • Some often say, we understand that suicide is one of the worst sins. But what if a person with good character commits suicide?
Firstly, if a good person does suicide, he will also be punished. You may ask why? He was a good person, why does he deserve punishment? The reason is that life does not belong to any human being. Even your own life is in reality a trust by God. You have not created it yourself. You hold it as a trust to the creator. Whether you take someone else’s life or your own, you are committing a crime. The entire humanity supports this view, no matter what religion they belong to. Even the secular world agrees that no one has the right to take anyone’s life, nor their own. To take one’s own life is far more dangerous than to take someone else’s. The reason is a murder can repent. However, one who takes his own life can never repent. Islam strongly discourages suicide and we do not even pray the janazah of one who does such because he died in the act of crime and was given no chance to repent or seek forgiveness of Allah. We don’t say such people will go to hell or anything of that sort. We say leave it to God. We do not know whether they were mad or had any other illness, rather only know he committed a wrong act. Since he has already gone to the One who has The Right to Judge, we let Him Judge.
  • The Promised Messiah(as) states: If mankind had to live without God, no doubt, it would have been a life of great trial and misery. Look! Now every particle is in His protection. So what is there to worry about or be afraid of? Allah’s powers are marvelous and His influences are unparalleled. Having believed in All Powerful Personal God a believer is never again anxious or worried! As the believer knows that Allah does what He wills and at the same time the believer is also resigned to the fact that whatever Allah will provide for him would indeed be the best for him. A believer finds blessing in what he receives from Allah. The basic difference in a believer and non-believer is indeed the belief itself. The life of an atheist or an agnostic is fine and without fear until he has not been afflicted by a trial and tribulation. But when even a small difficulty raises its head, it stuns his mind. He is unable to cope with even small setbacks. His hope does not lie in Allah; he is focused on worldly means. These means disappoint him. Under these circumstances even small setbacks make these people commit suicide. In Europe where there are a large number of atheists, there are so many suicides that are not seen in any other country. What is the reason for that? Indeed it is the fact that they cannot patiently face setbacks and trials. Their patience and hearts are weak. On the other hand the believer has a brave heart, because his trust is on God All Mighty. If he goes through difficulties he does not lose heart. On the contrary he marches forward despite the difficulties. He begins to increase in his faith. The fact of the matter is that it is in times of distress that one really has the greatest pleasure of faith and belief. The faith is indeed for these very days. In the time of prosperity when there is no financial or health strain and there are all sorts of comforts and luxuries, then the believer and a non-believer are alike. It is in trouble, illness and other difficulties that one is tested out. These trials show as to who has a firm relationship with Allah and believes in His Powers and Influences and who complains and is displeased with Him
  • He also states: It is not true that the disbelievers also enjoy the comfort and well being (that is, they don’t have it). Those who think otherwise, do not know that these people (the disbelievers) are slaves to the intoxicants and they lack courage. Had they have been contented and in a comfortable position they would not have been committing suicide. A believer never commits suicide. The wine and other intoxicants are generally – and on the face of them – known to be the removers of sadness and grief. The fact is that the best recipe for the removal of grief and to have comfort, is true Faith. It is the Believer about whom the Qur’an states:
He who fears God attains two paradises (one in this world, and one in the hereafter)
    (Malfuzat, Volume 3, Page 338)

  • In regards to trials he (as) said: “The fact is that the Messengers of God undergo hardships and pass away from this world. The very fact that they were troubled for the sake of God, became a cause of their greatness and exalted position. Those whom God loves, are not free from tribulations; they have to pass through them. But there is a very important aspect of these tribulations; they are not meant to destroy them, rather these tribulations are there for the Messengers to get their efforts fructified. This is the law that God has promulgated for everything that is worth something; first it is put to hardships. The farmer ploughs the land and thus tears asunder the chest of the earth. He makes the soul thin (like powder), so much that even the wave of wind carries it from place to place. The ignorant one might think that the farmer has made a big mistake by spoiling the land which was so nice But the wise person knows it well that unless all this is done to the land, it cannot display its talent of producing the and flowers. That is how the seed is sown in the land which becomes almost dust by mixing with the dust. Are these seeds sown because the farmer hates them. Not at all. These seeds are very valuable in the sight of the farmer. He sows them in soil to make them flourish and sprout and produce thousands of their kind.
  • He further states: That being the law of God, He throws His chosen ones also into the soil and the people trample over them and they crush them under their feet. But a little after that, the seed that had mixed up with the dust, produces greenery and it shows itself in very beautiful colours; it surprises the people to see the beautiful colours; it surprises the people to see this beautiful scene. That has always been the way of God in connection with His chosen ones; they are thrown into the great whirlpools but not to be drowned, rather, to make them inheritors of the pearls that are to be found at the bed of the river of the Oneness of God. They are thrown into the fire but not to be burnt there, rather, to show a great manifestation of God to the people. In short they are mocked at and the people laugh at them; the people take it to be a blessed thing to curse them. All this happens, and then God manifests Himself and flashes His succour and it is proved to the world that God is at their back and He, with just one Manifestation of His, brings devastation to the enemies. The first phase belongs to the opponents, and then comes the turn of God. That is to what God refers to when he says the end with Allah is for those who are the righteous.

Another point worth noticing in the hardships that those Commissioned by God have to confront is that God wishes their good morals to become an example for others and also wishes their steadfastness, which is nothing less than a miracle, to be shown to the people” (Malfuzat, Volume 2, Page 305-307)

Stress from Past Sins: https://www.instagram.com/p/BkBZ5DehYgK/?taken-by=ahmadianswers

  • Many go through sadness and stress over their past mistakes and regrets. It’s natural to regret mistakes but Islam is that beautiful religion that teaches us that life is a journey. Life is about striving for the sake of Allah. When we as Muslims sin, we work hard to and repent and turn towards Allah the Almighty. We not only turn to Him, but ask Him for help and that He Protects us from further sins.

Firstly we must realize how forgiving Allah is. Allah States in the Qur’an that His mercy encompasses all things. A hadith Qudsi states that Allah said:
” Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, said: ‘O son of Adam! Verily as long as you called upon Me and hoped in Me, I forgave you, despite whatever may have occurred from you, and I did not mind. O son of Adam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you, and I would not mind. So son of Adam! If you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.’”
This is how forgiving our Lord is subhan Allah! –
The Holy Prophet (saw) said man sins but that the best one is he who repents. He also stated: ‘The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.’” –
There are three conditions for repentance which we must keep in mind. The first condition is that we must get rid of the evil thoughts as a whole as ideas have great influence and every action is preceded by an idea. Hadhrat Ahmad(as) stated:
” For instance, if a person has an illicit relationship with a woman and desires to repent, it is necessary that he should conceive of her as ugly and should call to mind all her low qualities.”

The second condition is remorse. The conscience of everyone admonishes them over every evil, but the unfortunate ones leave their conscience suspended. A sinner must express over his sin and evil action and should reflect. He should know that why should he indulge in that which he has to give up one day anyways, since he would get older and weaker.
  • The third condition is a promise to God and a firm resolve that he will never return these vices. If one does this, Allah will give them the strength. –
    Hadhrat Ahmad(as) beautifully states:
Taubah (Repentance) means that a person should discard a vice with the resolve that thereafter, even if he is thrown into the fire, he would not commit that vice. When man turns towards God Almighty with such sincerity and firm resolve, then God, who is Benevolent and Merciful, forgives him that particular sin. It is one of the high Divine attributes that God accepts repentance and saves a sinner from ruin.

“Think not you are sinners. Will your prayers be heard? Do not think like this. Man makes mistakes, but a time comes when he is able to overpower his sinning self. This power to overpower the sinning self is also built into the nature of man. Water puts out fire. This is a part of its nature. Howsoever you may heat it, when water drops on fire it must put it out. That is natural. So is man a purifier by nature. Every man has this purifying property. Do not feel defeated because you have been involved in sin. Sin is like a stain on the surface of a piece of cloth. It can be washed away. Your habits, your dispositions may be dominated every so much by your passions. Pray to God weeping, crying, He will not let your prayers go to waste. He is full of compassion. (Badr, 1907)

We should have faith and trust in Allah and keep moving forward from our mistakes and learn from them. The Holy Prophet(saw) said a true believer will not put his hand in the same hole twice. May Allah help us all improve our relationship with Allah and abstain from sin ameen.

As Muslims how do we treat mental illness? Such an amazing answer for all those who disregard mental illness and continue to say “its nothing”. Medical treatment can be used! https://www.instagram.com/p/BtrGBhHFEDM/
