Before we answer this it is important to understand that this allegation is not only raised against Ahmadas .
Allah States in the Qur’an:
مَا يُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ قِيلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِيمٍ{44}
Nothing is said to thee but what was said to the Messengers before thee. Thy Lord is indeed the Master of forgiveness; and also the Master of painful chastisement. (Chapter 41 Verse 44)
Allah States in regards to Shuaibas:
قَالُوا يَا شُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ كَثِيرًا مِمَّا تَقُولُ وَإِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا ۖ وَلَوْلَا رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنَاكَ ۖ وَمَا أَنْتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيزٍ {92} قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَهْطِي أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ وَرَاءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا ۖ إِنَّ رَبِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ {93}
They replied, ‘O Shu‘aib, we do not understand much of that which thou sayest, and surely, we see that thou art weak among us. And were it not for thy tribe, we would surely stone thee. And thou holdest no strong position among us.’ He said, ‘O my people, is my tribe mightier with you than Allah? And you have cast Him behind your backs as neglected. Surely, my Lord encompasses all that you do.(Chapter 11 Verses 92-93)
Allah has further Stated:
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا إِفْكٌ افْتَرَاهُ وَأَعَانَهُ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ آخَرُونَ ۖ فَقَدْ جَاءُوا ظُلْمًا وَزُورًا {5} وَقَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ اكْتَتَبَهَا فَهِيَ تُمْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا {6}
And those who disbelieve say, ‘It is naught but a lie which he has forged, and other people have helped him with it.’ Indeed, they have brought forth an injustice and an untruth.And they say, ‘These are fables of the ancients; and he has got them written down, and they are dictated to him morning and evening.’(Chapter 25 Verses 5-6)
The first baseless allegation of the anti Ahmadi Muslims is that Ahmadaspraised the British government. They forget that the reason he praised them was because of the religious freedom they have given to the Muslims. Muslims used to be persecuted by the Sikhs of India in a way no one can imagine and when the British came into power such persecution had stopped. This is the reason the British were praised and they deserved this praise. Allah States in the Qur’an:
هَلْ جَزَاءُ الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَّا الْإِحْسَانُ {61}
The reward of goodness is nothing but goodness (Chapter 55 Verse 61)
Therefore, if the British did help the Muslims they deserve to be thanked and should not be hated in reply to their goodness rather be respected and given credit for their good works. The Holy Prophetsaw stated:
Narrated Abu Hurairah:The Prophet (ﷺ) said: He who does not thank the people is not thankful to Allah.(Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith #4811)
The Holy Prophetsaw has also supported this Qur’anic commandment and taught us to thank the people for their good works and if we do not do this, we are considered to be unthankful to Allah. The anti Ahmadis also hide the reason for this praise, which was the religious freedom the Muslims were receiving.
Ahmadas states:
“So, be advised, O you who are uninformed! I do not indulge in any flattery of this government. Rather, in the light of the Holy Qur’an, it is prohibited to wage a religious war against a government which does not itself interfere in the religion of Islam or religious practices – nor does it draw its sword against us in an attempt to promote its own religious beliefs. The reason for that is that this government is not waging any religious war.” (Kishti-e-Nuh, Footnote 68)
An allegation which is quite often raised is that Ahmadas claimed that he was planted by the British. This is another complete lie. In reality, Ahmadas was defending himself and his family’s good actions in the country of india and infront of the authorities of the British. It was his family that supported the government throughout their lives. None of these writings are about his claim of Prophethood or about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. These writings are only in defense of his family and how they supported the British Government. The Muslims during the time of Ahmadas were falsely lying and raising allegations against his family and their behaviour towards the government which caused Ahmadas to reply. The statement they accuse is as follows:
“…fifty years of continuous experience has proven it to be a valiantly loyal family and in respect of which the higher officials of this esteemed government have always testified in their testimonials, on the basis of their considered opinion, that they have been staunch well-wishers of the British government, and in their service, since ancient times. So the Government should take utmost caution and care and should make [proper] investigation and pay due attention to this khud kashta pauda.”(Kitabul Bariyyah, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 13 Page 350)
No where does the passage refer to this Jamaah of Allah and nor does it state anything related to the claim of Ahmadas. He is clearly talking about his family in this reference. Ahmadas was a prophet of God, who was planted by Allah Himself. Ahmadas states:
“The world does not recognize me, but He Who has sent me does know me.It is an error on the part of those – indeed it is their misfortune – who wish to see my destruction. I am the tree which has been planted by the Lord God with His own hands… O, ye People! You must understand this for sure that I am accompanied by that Hand which shall remain faithful to me till the end of time. If your men and your women, and your young and your old, and your insignificant ones and your notables all commit themselves to praying for my destruction – so much so that your noses get withered and wasted away due to your endless prostrations, and your hands become numb, even then God would certainly not accept your prayers, and he would not stop until He fulfills His decree…So, do not wrong your souls. The faces of liars can be discerned as something different altogether, and the countenances of the truthful ones are quite distinguishable. God does not leave any matter undecided…Just as God eventually decided at one time to another, between the previous Divinely appointed ones and the false claimants, similarly He will decide upon this matter presently at hand. There are seasons apposite to the advent of the Divinely appointed ones, and there are seasons apposite to their departure: do mark it for sure, that I have neither made an appearance out of season, nor shall my exit be out of season. Do not be pitted against God! It is not in your mettle to compass my ruin. (Tohfa-e-Golarviyyah, Ruhani Khazain Volume 17 page 12-13)
The truth is that the family of Ahmadas did not gain anything from the British. The British took away 70 villages which belonged to their family and the father of Ahmadas had to fight in court for these but nothing was restored. No one has a right to raise any allegation that the British were helping Ahmadas or his family.
The character of Ahmadas itself refutes this allegation.Would an agent ever go against his masters and refute their ideologies and break the foundation of their religion? Common sense and logic tells us that it is not possible for Ahmadas to be an agent of the British since he destroyed their religion through arguments and left the Christians of the country speechless. Ahmadas spent his entire life defending Islam and even invited the queen to Islam. He challenged the people who supported Christianity and left them all speechless.
Some have raised a recent allegation that a library has a document which states that the government paid Ahmadas and told him what statements to say in his books. This is a complete lie and there are people who have went to this so called library in search for this document and they had no clue even after research. This shows that this is a false lie of the so called Muslim scholars to decieve people.
The allegations against Ahmadas are truly baseless and when we turn to the non Ahmadi Muslims, their ulama have said statements just like Ahmadas and praised the British as well for their services. Before we quote these statements, let us see some beautiful writings of Ahmadas himself.
Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas states:
” This Government safeguards the lives and the properties of the Muslims and provides them with security against the attack of every wrongdoer… I have not embarked upon this enterprise out of any fear of Government or in the hope of any reward from it. All I have done is in accordance with the divine command and the command of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.”(Nurul Haq, Part I, p.30)
And:
“I do not flatter the Government as some ignorant ones imagine because I desire a return from the Government. On the contrary, I consider it just and a duty on account of my faith to express gratitude to the Government.” (Tableegh Risalat, Vol. X, p.123)
Here are some statements from the scholars of the non Ahmadi Muslims themselves, praising the British:
Maulvi Muhammad Hussain Of Batala, who was a leader of the Ahle Hadees and a opponent of Ahmadas stated:
“It is not permissible for Muslim subjects to fight, or to help with men and money those who fight, against a government, whether Christian, or Jewish, or of some other faith, under whom the Muslims carry out their religious duties and obligations freely. For the Muslims of India it is forbidden to oppose or rebel against the British Government.”(Ishaatus Sunnah, Vol. VI, No. 10)
He also stated:
“Brethren, this is not the time of the sword; at this time it has become necessary to use the pen in place of the sword.”(Ishaatus Sunnah, Vol. VI, No.12)
Syed Ali-al-Hariri who was a well known Shia Mujtahid, stated:
“We take pride in being subject to a Government under which justice and religious freedom are the law, the equal of which is not to be found in any other government of the world. Therefore, I declare that in return for this beneficence every Shia should be grateful to the British Government with a sincere heart and appreciate its beneficence.” (Mauiza Tahreef Quran,April 1923)
Hazrat Syed Sahib Barelvi declared:
“Our true purpose is the propagation of the Unity of God and the revival of the practice of the Chiefs of the Prophets, and that we carry out without hindrance in this country. Then why should we fight the British Government and shed the blood of both sides contrary to the principles of our religion.” (Biography of Hazrat Syed Ahmed by Maulana Muhammad Jaafar Thanesar)
An Nadwah, a famous paper of the Nadwatul Ulama wrote:
The true purpose of this institute of learning is to produce clear-minded divines and it is the duty of such divines that they should be familiar with the blessings of the Government and should propagate loyalty to the Government in the country. (An-Nadwah, Vol. V, July 1908)
It also stated:
One day was observed as a holiday in celebration of the fifty years’ Jubilee of the British Government and a telegram of felicitations was dispatched on behalf of the Nadwah to His Excellency the Governor-General. (An-Nadwah, November, 1908)
Once again it is important to note that Ahmadas received nothing for his praise and only did this for the propogation of Islam. Furthermore, the British Government would spend millions of pounds for the spread of Christianity which Ahmadas ended with his beautiful writings. This allegation is once again completely baseless and is only raised by the ignorant ones or the ones who love to spread falsehood. All Christian missionaries were united against Ahmadas, and had no chance against him. It would not make sense for the British to support a Prophet who was ending their doctrines.
