This is by far one of the most ignorant allegations of the non Ahmadi Muslims till today. They quote a poem of Ahmadas which shows how humble he was, and make a mockery out of it. The couplet is as follows:
“I am neither an earth-worm nor a human being. I am the most hated organ of the human body and a shame for humanity” (Ruhani Khazain Volume 21, Page 127)
Firstly, this prayer is not a new one. In fact, this verse is of Hadhrat Dawudas which the Promised Messiahas has translated into Urdu. It is stated in the Psalms:
But I a worm, and no man, a reproach of men and despised of the people. (Psalms 22:6)
The word for word translation by Hadhrat Ahmadas is “I am the dust of my beloved, not a human. I am hated by man and despised by man”
It was the tradition of the Prophet Muhammadsaw that he would follow the commandment of the Torah, if he deemed it correct and worthy of practice, unless revelation came to him which contradicted the commandment therein.
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to copy the people of the Scriptures in matters in which there was no order from Allah. (Sahih al Bukhari, 5917)
Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammadsaw stated:
بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً وَحَدِّثُوا عَنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَلاَ حَرَجَ
Meaning, convey from me, even if it be an Ayah, and narrate from the Children of Israel, and there is no harm…(Jami at-Tirmidhi #2669)
Imam Hasan Sayuti declared this hadith sahih and said that the Prophet Muhammadsaw said it is permissible to accept the narrations of Bani Israel. Some companions also did this.
A second rebuttal is that these words are not addressed to the people, and are rather prayers presented before Allah which is proven by the words “My Beloved” which are in the verses above and below. This is a tradition of the Prophets and pious people use such a prayer to humble themselves in front of their Creator.
We also see that other Prophets spoke in similar ways. For example Hadhrat Ayyubas once said that he is a disgraced servant. Never would an anti Ahmadi dare to actually mock him with those words.
Hadhrat Ahmadas hated arrogance. Furthermore, in one poem he stated :
In their eyes I am like a mere shred of a dry date;
Indeed, even more insignificant and contemptible than that. (Barhain-e-Ahmadiyya, Part 5, Page 452)
If these anti Ahmadis were alive during the time of Hadhrat Dawudas, they would have rejected him and mocked him as well.
What they have misunderstood he is that such words show humility and its a common way of poetry of the saints throughout Islamic history. We also have such statements in the Qur’an.
Allah States a statement of Yusufas which is:
وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ {54}
“And I do not hold my own self to be free from weakness; for, the soul is surely prone to enjoin evil, save that whereon my Lord has mercy. Surely, my Lord is Most Forgiving, Merciful.” (Chapter 12 verse 54)
Allah further States a statement of Yunusas which is as follows:
وَذَا النُّونِ إِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ نَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ{88}
And remember Dha’l-Nun, when he went away in anger, and he thought that We would never cause him distress and he cried out in depths of darkness, saying, ‘There is no God but Thou, Holy art Thou. I have indeed been of the wrongdoers.’(Chapter 21 Verse 88)
Let us now see some statements from the scholars of Ahlul Sunnah:
Maulana Zakariyah states: “Hazrat Shah Ishaq Muhajiree Makki advised to Imdadullah Muhajir Makki : “Regard yourself to be most inferior in the entire creation” (Mashaikh-e-Chist (Eng Translation) Page 217)
Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi the founder of Darul-Uloom Deobandi stated in a poem recorded in Fazaail-e-Aamaal:
“Because of the huge amount of sins even the dogs treat my name as an abuse, but I am proud of your name and your relationship (Allah’s Messengersaw and I desire that my name be included as a dog of (the streets of ) Medina. May I live with the dogs of your Haram and when I die may my corpse be eaten by the vultures of Medina.” (Fazaail-e-Aamaal, The Virtues of Durood Page 164, No. 46, Edition of 1985 Published by Dini Book Depot, Delhi)
Maulana Ilyas signs his letters addressing himself as “The Dog of the Prophets city” (Makatib Maulana Shah Mohammad Ilyas compiled by Sayed Abul-Hassan Ali Nadvi, Idara Ishaat al Diniyat, Nizamuddin New Delhi, Page 54)
Jalalddin al Rumi states “I was once like you, enlightened and “rational”. I too scoffed at lovers, Now I am drunk, crazed with misery. No one is safe! Watch Out”
Rabia Al Adawiyya states“O Lord Once I wanted You so Much I didn’t even dare walk past Your house– An now I am not even worthy to be let in”
There are many more instances and statements as well, and there is nothing wrong with this. This is just another baseless allegation.
