Chapter 2 verse 125

A Promise to Abraham عليه السلام

Allah has stated in the Holy Qur’an:

2125

And remember when his Lord tried Abraham with certain commands which he fulfilled. He said, ‘I will make thee a Leader of men.’ Abraham asked, ‘And from among my offspring?’ He said, ‘My covenant does not embrace the transgressors.’(Chapter 2 Verse 125)

In this verse of the Holy Qur’an Allah has given Abraham(as) glad tidings that he would be made a Leader of the Men. The reason he obtained this blessing was because of his obedience to Allah. Since Abraham(as) was given this reward he believed that this blessing would continue in his offspring but Allah stated that His covenant does not embrace the transgressors. This shows that the transgressors would not receive blessings, but the true believers will indeed have these blessings.

One might try to state that the word Imam is used rather than the word prophet, and therefore it means only Imams will come rather than prophets. This would make no sense as linguistically a the word Imam also refers to prophethood and all prophets were indeed Imams. In the verse of the Qur’an Abraham(as) is praying for the greatest blessings possible, which is indeed Prophethood. Allah has also stated in regards to Abraham(as):

2130

‘And, our Lord, raise up among them a Messenger from among themselves, who may recite to them Thy Signs and teach them the Book and Wisdom and may purify them; surely, Thou art the Mighty, the Wise.’(Chapter 2 Verse 130)

If one tries to state that the word Rasulun is used in the ayah and it refers to Nabi(saw) alone, it should be remembered that we agree that in specific it does refer to the Holy Prophet(saw). It is clear that Abraham(as) also desired the reward of prophethood for his children, and how can we deny this if he prayed for it? He did not only pray for one child to attain this prophethood rather his entire offspring. If a father has sons, would it make sense for him to only pray for one and leave the rest to fall onto the wrong path? Of course not. We know that Abraham(as) was a righteous father who wanted the best for all of his progeny and children. Allah accepted the prayer and stated in the Qur’an:

2928

And We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and We placed the gift ofprophethood and the Book among his descendants, and We gave him his reward in this life, and in the Hereafter he will surely be among the righteous.(Chapter 29 Verse 28)

If one was to believe that Prophethood was closed after the Holy Prophet(saw) came it would mean that the Holy Prophet(saw) would not be able to achieve the blessing which was given to Abraham(as) despite being the Seal of all The Prophets. It would also mean that all followers of Holy Prophet(saw) were God forbid transgressors as they were not given this blessing of Allah. Allah has made it Clear that prophethood is a blessing of Allah which He bestows on whomsoever He wishes.

It also amazes me that the non Ahmadi Muslims are not aware of the prayers they often read. We read daily in our prayers this beautiful prophecy of Allah:

darud

Bless, O Allah, Muhammad and the people of Muhammad, as Thou didst bless Abraham and the people of Abraham. Thou art indeed the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. Prosper, O Allah, Muhammad and the people of Muhammad, as Thou didst prosper Abraham and the people of Abraham. Thou art indeed the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

We have been taught by our Master(saw) to send blessings upon him in the same way blessings were given to Abraham(as). This makes it clear that the Promise which was given to Abraham(as) would continue with the advent of the Holy Prophet(saw) and this is a reward that will never end. If one closes the door of prophethood he is not only taking away a blessing from Abraham(as) but also away from our master Muhammad(saw).
