The True Story of Ahmad (عليه السلام)

The True Story of Ahmad (عليه السلام)

Most of us are aware of the issues surrounding Hamza Ali Abbasi for his courageous question in regards to protecting minorities, which is from the sunnah of the Holy Prophet First it is important to understand why Hamza Ali has faced so much backlash by extreme religious clerics, or in other words Mullahs in Pakistan. We should not be surprised by this as the condition of these scholars was actually prophesied by the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in regards to the end times. Here are three important ahadith which illustrate the conditions of the end times:

Narrated Jubair bin Nufair: from Abu Ad-Darda who said: “We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) when he raised his sight to the sky,
then he said: ‘This is the time when knowledge is to be taken from the people, until what remains of it shall not amount to anything.” So Ziyad bin Labid Al-Ansari said: ‘How will it be taken from us while we recite the Qur’an. By Allah we recite it, and our women and children recite it?’ He (ﷺ) said: ‘May you be bereaved of your mother O Ziyad! I used to consider you among the Fuqaha of the people of Al-Madinah. The Tawrah and Injil are with the Jews and Christians, but what do they avail of them?'” (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi Hadith #2653)

‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (ra) narrates that the Messenger of Allāh (sa) said: “A time will come in the near future when there will be nothing left of the Islam except its name. And there will be nothing left of the Holy Qur’ān except its words. The mosques of that age will apparently be full of people, but will be empty of righteousness. Their ‘Ulamā’ will be the worst creatures under the heaven. Discourse will rise from them and will come right back to them.”(Mishkat Kitabul Ilm)

Narrated Thawban: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith #4297)

As a result of this incident on Hamza Ali’s show, there has been a storm of misinformation regarding the life and character of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (عليه السلام), the Promised Messiah and Mahdi.Hazrat Ahmad (عليه السلام) was born in 1835 in Qadian, a small town in India. He was a true devotee of Islam from the onset of his life, and defended the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) like none other. The Holy Qur`an makes it clear that Prophets have already lived a life before you, and that after making their claim people turn their backs. We see this in the life of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) as well. In the case of Ahmad (عليه السلام), one of his arch enemies, Mohammad Hussain Batalvi said in regards to a book written by Ahmad (عليه السلام)

“In our opinion, this book in this age, and to meet the present circumstances, is such that the like of it has not been written up to this time in Islam … its author, too, has proved himself to be firmly staunch in helping the cause of Islam with his money, with his pen and his tongue, and with his personal religious experiences.” (Ishaat-us-Sunnah, Vol. 7, June-November 1884)

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (عليه السلام) gained lots of popularity in India as he was the only one defending Islam to such an extent that the scholars themselves understood that none other can defend Islam to the extent of which he did. He had many debates with different religions and he became well known after his debate with Abdullah Atham, who wrote extensively against Islam. The Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) among many of his debates, was never defeated. Here is a statement from an Anti Ahmadi himself who was forced to agree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMaKaosL0cI

On one occasion Maulvi Irshad Ali of Nagpur said,“The Christian missionary Safdur Ali has challenged me to a debate with him on the truth of Islam and Christianity. … But I can ask him that if he is so confident about his arguments and the truth of Christianity, where was he when Maulavi Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani stood in the field of debate like a brave lion and challenged him. This challenge had such an effect on you people that no Christian missionary dare confront him [Mirza Ghulam Ahmad].” (Magazine Dastkari, Amritsar, 18 June 1899)

He received his first divine revelation in the year of 1869 and his first book was published in the year of 1880.
He (عليه السلام) claimed to be appointed by God as the reviver of the faith in the year 1882, and the first initiation of his community took place in 1889. As we see from the history of all prophets, they have made gradual claims as God has revealed to them. For example, at first the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was told that he should warn only his near relatives. Much later, God told him that he is a messenger to all of mankind. In the start, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was not told that he was best of Prophets, rather it was much later when it was revealed to him that he was Khataman Nabiyeen, the seal of the prophets. The Holy Qur’an states that prophets speak only when Allah commands them (Chapter 21, Verse 28), and just as such, the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) said only what God revealed to him about his status.

From the start, the Promised Messiah (as) got revelation that he was a Nabi, but only interpreted it in different ways as those days it was popularly spread that all Prophets bring new teachings. As time progressed Allah the Al-Mighty made it clearer that he was indeed the Ummati-Prophet who was prophesied by the Holy Prophet for Islam. The concept of Ummati or Zilli Nabuwwat is from the Holy Qur`an, Ahadith, Sahaba, and many revered scholars including the likes of Muhayyudin Ibne Arabi, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani, Abdul Wahab Sharani, Jalalud-din Rumi, Shah Waliullah Delvi, and Maulana Mohammad Qasim Lanotvi. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) in fact, himself stated that the latter day Messiah would be a nabi, and he mentioned this in many ahadith. In fact, in one single hadith of Sahih Muslim, he repeats this four times.

In 1891, the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) made it clear that he was the Messiah and Mahdi that all of the Muslims were waiting for. He spent all of his mornings and nights in defense of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) who was being attacked all around India by many different religions. No Muslim scholar had the audacity to reply to these allegations, other than Ahmad (عليه السلام) and in fact all of the Muslim scholars ran towards him for this duty. He indulged in debates with many scholars of India and proved the truthfulness of Islam to hundreds of thousands. Even the newspapers of America headlined “Great is Mirza Ghulam Ahmad The Messiah”.

As we again know from the history of prophets, that all prophets of God have opponents like we see in the life of Jesus (عليه السلام) , and the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). The same occurred with the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام), as many religious clerics fought against him once he made his claim. Ahmad (عليه السلام) issued more than 88 books in the defense of Islam. He fulfilled all of the prophecies which were foretold by the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) in regards to the Messiah and Mahdi. Of these hundreds of prophecies, some popular ones which all Muslims awaited, consisted of a heavenly solar and lunar eclipse in the month of Ramadhan, the time of his arrival occurring during a large amount of division between the Muslims, being born to the east of Damascus, creating a community within Islam which would have Khilafat after his demise, and also proving the true story of Isa(عليه السلام) to the world.

One of the biggest opponents despite the various signs mentioned above of the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام). was Pir Mehr Ali Shah who the Sunnis believed was the last hope against the Ahmadiyya Community. Unfortunately, they chose the wrong person as their last hope, as he was someone who once praised Ahmad (عليه السلام) saying, “Imam Jalal Ud Din Sayuti says that there are certain stages of spiritual progress where many servants of Allah become the Messiah and Mahdi. I cannot say whether he [Mirza Ghulam Ahmad] is only at that stage or whether he is the same Mahdi promised for this ummah by the Holy Prophet saw but he [Mirza Ghulam Ahmad] is proving to be a cuffing sword against false religions and is certainly Divinely aided” (Golarvi, Pir Mehr Ali Shah, Al Hakam, June 1904 pg 550, Al Qur’an 16.37)

Interestingly enough, it is this same Pir Mehr Ali Shah’s grandson who is now part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Pir Mehr Ali Shah is the same fraud who was labeled as a plagiarist and caught for his action. He was exposed through many writings. The humiliation of Pir Mehr Ali Shah is quite interesting and a fulfilment of another prophecy where Allah states, I shall humiliate him who designs to humiliate you.. The story of Mehr Ali Shah can be read here: https://ahmadianswers.com/ahmad/allegations/prophecies/pir/

And the truth is, that the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) actually challenged Pir Mehr Ali Shah to write a compelling tafsir of Surah Al-Fatiha, which the Pir failed to do in his life time. This is also the same Pir Mehr Ali Shah who was challenged by the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) in Arabic, and was forced to reply in Urdu due to his lack of understanding of the language of the Holy Qur’an. In regards to the debate challenge made in Lahore, the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) never even accepted it. Such can be compared to a Mullah who challenges me to a debate, where all judges are also Mullahs, and my life is in danger. If I don’t accept the challenge, does that mean I’m afraid? Of course not.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an not even to go to Hajj if your life is in danger, and here these Mullahs conspiring against the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) were expecting him to show up. Secondly all the judges were against Ahmad (عليه السلام) and wanted him to remove his claims if they had made the decision that he had lost. Such a platform is completely foolish.
It is also clear that many scholars from every school of thought declared Ahmadi Muslims disbelievers based on us believing that Hazrat Ahmad (عليه السلام) was a ummati prophet. This despite seeming like a huge trial in the progression of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, was a great testament of truthfulness. It was a fulfillment of the following hadith:

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr:that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “What befell the children of Isra’il will befall my Ummah, step by step, such that if there was one who had intercourse with his mother in the open, then there would be someone from my Ummah who would do that. Indeed the children of Isra’il split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects. All of them are in the Fire Except one sect.” He said: “And which is it O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “What I am upon and my Companions.” (Jami’at Tirmidhi, Hadith #2641)

By signing this petition they’ve declared themselves Kaafir, as they too await a Nabi to come in the latter days. The only difference is we have already accepted that true Messiah, while they sadly still wait.Another famous opponent of the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) was Muhammad Hussain Batalvi. Shockingly enough, just like Pir Mehr Ali Shah, Muhammad Hussein Batalvi’s grandson also became an Ahmadi Muslim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-xPw8vY0u0

There were various heavenly signs of the truthfulness of the Promised Messiah(عليه السلام) to which no one can object. Many signs of the Promised Messiah (عليه السلام) are falsely reported to draw away innocent people from Ahmadiyyat. One of these signs is claiming that the Promised Messiah built a Minaret, climbed it, and then said this sign has been fulfilled. This is extremely foolish and a clear lie, as the minaret was not even completed during his lifetime. This allegation has been answered in depth here for those interested: https://ahmadianswers.com/ahmad/truth/hadith/minaret/

Many anti-ahmadis raise an allegation about the Promised Messiah and his interaction with Sanaullah Amritsari. However, here is the reality for anyone interested in the truth: https://ahmadianswers.com/ahmad/allegations/prophecies/sanaullah/ The end of Sanaullah is also something we should note: Maulvi Abdul Majid Sohdarvi, biographer of Maulvi Sanaullah, writes: “The moment he left his house, vagabonds and looters who were waiting for the opportunity swept in and took everything, including all the household items, cash and jewelry. After looting and robbing, they put the house on fire. That was, however, not the end of it; the looters also put on fire and turned to ashes Maulana’s most precious and valuable collection of books which included some very rare publications worth thousands of rupees and which he had brought together after great pains and expense.

The loss of these books was no less distressing to Maulana than the loss of his only son. Those books were the most valuable estate of his life and some of them were so rare that it was not only difficult but impossible to replace them” … “This violent grief remained with Maulana until his death and, in fact, these two tragic incidents were the major cause of his sudden death. The sudden loss of his only son and the burning of his most precious collection of books, and the affliction of both of these misfortunes over a short while claimed his life (Seerati Sanai, Maqbool Aam Press, Lahore) There are also many lies against his death, however here is the truth and complete picture: https://ahmadianswers.com/ahmad/allegations/accursed/

In summary, one of the primary differences between Ahmadi Muslims and others, is that we have already accepted the Nabi that was to come in the latter days, and the rest are still waiting, and will continue to wait. Ahmad (عليه السلام)stated: “It is, therefore, a Sign from God; because every Prophet has been mocked at. Who would laugh at a person who comes down from heaven with a host of angels? Even from this one could understand that the story of Messiah coming down from heaven is no more than a myth.

Remember very well that no one will descend from heaven. All our opponents who live today shall die and none of them shall ever see Jesus son of Mary coming down from heaven; then their children that are left after them shall also die and none from among them shall ever see Jesus son of Mary coming down from heaven and then their third generation shall also die and they too shall not see the son of Mary coming down. Then God shall cause great consternation in their hearts, yet the son of Mary has not come down. Then in dismay the wise among them shall forsake this belief and three centuries from now shall not have passed when those who await the coming of Jesus son of Mary, whether they be Muslims or Christians, shall relinquish altogether this conception. Then shall prevail only one religion over the whole world and there shall be only one religious Leader. I came only to sow the seed which has been planted by my hand. It shall now grow and flourish and there is none who can hinder its growth.” (Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (عليه السلام), Tazkiratush Shahadatain)
