Hazrat Isa عليه السلام buried with Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ?

Firstly, it is clear that Isaas has died according to the Qur’an and the Ahadith. Secondly a lot of non Ahmadi Muslims have quoted a hadith which states that the latter day masih would be buried with Muhammad^saw, and quote it to be in Tirmidhi. This hadith is not anywhere in Tirmidhi. In reality this hadith is from Mishkat and states:

 ید فن معی قبر ی

“He shall be buried with me in my grave”

If one was to assume that Isaas would physically come from the skies and then pass away, one would have to dig the grave of Muhammad^saw, which itself is haram, if this is taken literally. This itself proves that this hadith has a deeper meaning. Secondly, it would mean that until that latter day messiah has died, no one is allowed to accept him, as they would not know whether he is truthful or not until his death.Till he is buried one would not be allowed to accept him even though the Holy Prophet^saw stated:

فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَبَايِعُوهُ وَلَوْ حَبْوًا عَلَى الثَّلْجِ فَإِنَّهُ خَلِيفَةُ اللَّهِ الْمَهْدِيُّ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

“When you see them, then pledge your allegiance to them even if you have to crawl over the snow, for that is the caliph of Allah, Mahdi.” (Ibn Maja Hadith #4084)

Furthermore there is another hadith of Musnad Ahmad which states:

Abdullah related to us from his father, he from Aswad bin Amir, he from Abu Bakr, he from Asim, he from Abu Salih, and he from Muawiyah, that the Holy Prophetsa said: ‘He who dies without [recognizing] the Imam dies the death of ignorance.’ Page 96 vol. 4 Musnad Ahmad. This [Hadith] is also recorded by Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn-e-Khuzaimah and Ibni Habban. Al-Harith Al-Ashari gives another version of this Hadith: ‘He who dies without [following] the Imam of a Jama‘at certainly dies a death of ignorance.’ Hakim reports this from Bin Amr, he from Muawiyah, he from Bazzar, and he from Ibni Abbas (Musnad Ahmad)

This would mean that anyone who was to die between the coming of the messiah and until the messiah is buried, would die a death of ignorance as he cannot accept the messiah until that messiah is buried with the Prophet Muhammad^saw after his grave is opened which is further not allowed in Islam.

A beautiful vision of Ayesha^ra states:

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ، زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَتْ رَأَيْتُ ثَلاَثَةَ أَقْمَارٍ سَقَطْنَ فِي حُجْرَتِي فَقَصَصْتُ رُؤْيَاىَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَدُفِنَ فِي بَيْتِهَا قَالَ لَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ هَذَا أَحَدُ أَقْمَارِكِ وَهُوَ خَيْرُهَا ‏.‏

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that A’isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “I saw three moons fall into my room, and I related my vision to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. Then, when the Messenger of Allah died, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and was buried in my house, Abu Bakr said to me, ‘This is one of your moons, and he is the best of them.’ ” (Muwatta Malik, : Book 16, Hadith 30)

The Holy Prophet Muhammad^saw, Abu Bakr^ra, and Umar^ra were buried in the pavilion of Ayeshara according to her vision. Only three people are mentioned and there is no mention of the latter day Messiah. If the the latter day messiah was to physically be buried even next to the Prophet^saw, Allah would not have forgotten to include him in this beautiful vision. Another saying from Sahih Muslim States:

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي، مَرْيَمَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ، بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ، قَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمًا إِلَى حَائِطٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَخَرَجْتُ فِي إِثْرِهِ ‏.‏ وَاقْتَصَّ الْحَدِيثَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلاَلٍ وَذَكَرَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏.‏ فَتَأَوَّلْتُ ذَلِكَ قُبُورَهُمُ اجْتَمَعَتْ هَا هُنَا وَانْفَرَدَ عُثْمَانُ ‏.‏

Sa’id b. al-Musayyib reported Abu Musa Ash’ari having said that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) set out one day to the suburbs of Medina for reliev- ing himself. I followed his steps. The rest of the hadith is the same. Ibn Musayyib said: I concluded (from the manner of their sitting) the (order) of their graves. (The three) would be together (the graves of the Holy Prophet, Hadrat Abu Bakr and Hadrat Umar) and that of ‘Uthman would be separate (from them). (Sahih Muslim Hadith #2403)

This hadith shows that it was the view of the sahaba as well that the ones who would be together in regards to their graves would only be Holy Prophet^saw, Abu Bakr^ra, and Umar^ra.

Another hadith states:

‏ أَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ تَنْشَقُّ عَنْهُ الأَرْضُ ثُمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ

I am the first person whose grave shall be opened [on the day of resurrection]. Then Abu Bakr and then ‘Umar.” (Tirmidhi Book 49 Hadith #4056, Abwabul-Manaqib, Manaqibu ‘Umar)

If the latter day messiah was to be physically buried with Muhammad^saw, his name would also be present in this narration. The true meaning of this hadith is not to be taken literally rather shows that the tasks of the latter day messiah would be to spread the same message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad^saw. It shows that this messiah who is no other than Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad^as, would be a reflection of the Holy Prophet^saw and would follow the Prophet^sawin every way. They would be identical and one in mission.

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad^as explains this hadith beautifully. He^as states:

What God requires of you, in the matter of belief, is that God is One and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His Prophet and the Seal of Prophets and is the greatest of them all. After him there is no Prophet except only one who is reflectively clothed in the mantle of Muhammadiyyat. Inasmuch as a servant cannot be separated from his master, nor is a branch separable from its root, he who is designated Prophet by God on account of his perfect devotion to his master does not contravene the Seal of Prophethood. Just as when you look into a mirror, there are not two of you but only one, although there appear to be two: the real one and the reflection. That is what God designated in the case of the Promised Messiah. This is also the meaning of the saying of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that the Promised Messiah would be buried with him in the same grave (Kashti-e-Nuh, Ruhani Khazain Volume 19, Pages 15-16)
