Condition of Maryam

The baseless allegation of the anti Ahmadi Muslims is that Ahmadas claimed to spiritually go through what Maryamas went through. They quote:

” In the third part of Braheen e Ahmadiyya, God had named me Mary and as apparent from it, I was nurtured in the qualities of Mary for two years.  When a period of two years lapsed then, as stated on page 496 of the 4th volume of Braheen e Ahmadiyya, the soul of Jesus was infused in me as it was infused in Mary and, in an allegoric sense, I was stated to be pregnant.  Thereafter, after many months not exceeding a period of ten months after this revelation, I was, through a revelation recorded at the end of Braheen e Ahmadiyya on page 556, named Jesus and hence I came to be the son of Mary.(Kashti Nuh Ruhani Khazain Vol 19 page 50)

Firstly, it is important to make it clear that this was not physical and rather metaphorical as Ahmadas has explained. This is all spiritual and the pregnancy is spiritual as well. This claim is made from the Qur’an so the allegation we are about to answer is in defense of Islam from the anti Ahmadi Muslims.Allah States in the Qur’an:

وَالَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَاهَا وَابْنَهَا آيَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ {92}

And remember her who preserved her chastity; so We breathed into her of Our word and We made her and her son a Sign for peoples.(Chapter 21 verse 92)

Allah in this verse has used the words فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا to refer to a woman but Allah has also Stated:

وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا امْرَأَتَ فِرْعَوْنَ إِذْ قَالَتْ رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِنْدَكَ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ{12} وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْقَانِتِينَ {13}

And Allah sets forth for those who believe the example of the wife of Pharaoh when she said, ‘My Lord! build for me a house with Thee in the Garden; and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from the wrongdoing people;’ And the example of Mary, the daughter of ‘Imran, who guarded her private parts — so We breathed into him of Our Spirit — and she fulfilled in her person the words of her Lord and His Books and was one of the obedient. (Chapter 66 verse 12-13)

In these verses, Allah has used the word فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ  which is in regrds to males. We see a clear distinction in both verses as this verse refers to the condition of the males and whom they should be like.

The condition of the believers should either be like the wife of Pharaoh, or Hazrat Maryamas, the daughter of Imran. Now its clear that Allah states that the believers should be like these two women, so it is obvious that a believer would either be like Pharaohs wife or Maryamas. Ahmadas has claimed his condition to have reached like Maryamas. According to this ayah, Allah says a believer cannot even be a true believer unless he follows the example of one of these women. These are conditions of the believers according to the Qur’an and when a believer follows Allah and all of his commands, Allah says He blows a spirit into the believer.

Allah States in the Qur’an:

وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ ۖ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا {86}

And they ask thee concerning the soul. Say, ‘The soul is by the command of my Lord; and of the knowledge thereof you have been given but a little.’(Chapter 17 verse 86)

The way a prophet is made is through the knowledge of Allah. When Allah blew His spirit, then the latter day Messiah spiritually went through a condition like Maryamas. This verse shows us that the one who was to come from Allah as the latter day Messiah would be spiritual that he would raise to this rank. Now the ones who raise this allegation are asked whether they claim to follow either the wife of Pharaoh or Maryamas and if none how can they claim to be believers?If they mock a similarity to Maryamas they should not claim to be like the wife of Pharaoh. If the anti Ahmadis claim that both titles are ridiculous, they only have one other woman to be likened to. Allah States in the Qur’an:

ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا امْرَأَتَ نُوحٍ وَامْرَأَتَ لُوطٍ ۖ كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَالِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا وَقِيلَ ادْخُلَا النَّارَ مَعَ الدَّاخِلِينَ {11}

Allah sets forth for those who disbelieve the example of the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two righteous servants of Ours, but they acted unfaithfully towards them. So they availed them naught against Allah, and it was said to them, ‘Enter the Fire, ye twain, along with those who enter.’(Chapter 66 Verse 11)

The anti Ahmadis have only four choices of which two categories they want to be included in according to the Qur’an. Either the wife of Pharaoh, Maryamasand be believers, or the Wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, and be disbelievers.If they do not want to be a part of any category, than maybe they should not claim to be humans as the Qur’an has only given us these two categories, comprising of the four women.

The statement of Ahmadas simply shows us that for a period of as much as two years, he spent his life being at such a spiritual stage that he obtained qualities which Hazrat Maryamas had. The most important quality from this would ofcourse be the dependence on Allah which Maryamas had for every matter. These qualities also include being near to Allah, being pure and being truthful. How can one see an allegation in a statement of Ahmadas simply saying he was nurtured in these amazing qualities which were possessed by a righteous person who the believers are told to be like, in the Qur’an?

The question arises that how can a Muslim be like Maryamas without going through what she went through? Once again this is of course spiritual. Once in Masjid al Aqsa the fourth Khalifa Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmadrh was answering questions before his khilafat. All answers were accepted by the people and the environment was amazing. One maulvi did not like this and stated tell me when Mirza sahib went through the condition of Maryam what type of things did he encounter? and also mocked this writing in other ways. Hazurrh asked him that in the Qur’an Allah names the believers through two categories either the wife of Pharaoh or Maryamas. He also said that you have reacted in a horrible way from Maryamas and are never ready to accept that you have went through such a condition. So Pharaohs wife is left, so explain to us whether you are a believer or not and what Pharaoh has done to you and how you have acted as a wife? The maulvi was speechless and had no answers and this is exactly the case with the typical day anti Ahmadis. Because they are not true believers and have not experienced such a rank, they begin to mock others. If they cannot be Maryamas spiritually, they have to be like the wife of Pharaoh if they are true believers.

Now another question which arises is that whether such a concept has been mentioned in Islamic literature. According to the Holy Prophet Muhammadsaw, no one shall enter the kingdom of heaven who has not been born twice. (Sirhind, Ahmad, Maktubat)

Hazrat Shahab ud Din Suharwardirh states:

“The disciple becomes a part of the master, just as a child is a part of its father in its physical birth. Thus, is the disciple born from its master in its spiritual birth”(Suhawardy, Shahab ud Din, Awarif al Mu’arif, Volume I, Page 45)

According to this one would have to assume for example that Khawaja Mu’in ud Din Chishtirh became a part of Hazrat Khawaja Usman Harunirh, and Hazrat Nizam ud Din Auliarh became a part of Hazrat Baba Farid ud Din Shakar Ganjrh. There are many more examples which can be stated as well but the statement of Hazrat Shahab ud Din Suharwardirh is clear.

Hazrat Jalal ud Din Rumirh stated:

“God confines free spirits into bodies and makes each body pregnant by the spirit. Each of us is a Messiah for the world” (Rumi,Jalal ud Din Rumi. Miftah al Ulum, Daftar No. I, Pt I, p. 55)

He also stated:

‘I am Jesus, but whoever receives life from my breath lives forever. Those who were brought to life by Jesus dies, but fortunate are they who entrusted their lives to this Jesus”(Miftah al Ulum, vol. VII, p. 45)

And:

“Whether the word of God is from behind the curtain or not, He bestows the very thing He gave to Mary” (Miftah al Ulum, vol. I, p. 11)

And:

“The Whole forms a relation with the part and from this, just as a woman receives a sperm from man, the sense of man receives a pearl. The soul of the man then becomes pregnant as did Mary and from this pregnancy is born a Messiah. This Messiah is not the Messiah who lived in the past, but is a Messiah whose glory is not easy to comprehend. When the spirit of God makes pregnant the spirit of man, that spirit then makes the world pregnant. This produces a spiritual revolution and resurrection in the world which is so grand as to defy description.” (Miftah al Ulum vol. 1, p. 11)

Hazrat Khawaja Mu’in ud Din Chishtirh stated:

‘If the Holy Spirit continues to give succour, everyday in the world the Mary of the time would give birth to Jesus.'(Chishti, Muin ud Din. Diwan Khawaja Ajmeri, Ode No. 70, p. 102)

Furthermore, the opponent of Ahmadas named Maulvi Sanaullah Amritsari, who studied this concept in depth, himself admited:

“According to the approved conventions the meanings of the explanations given by Mirza sahib shold be accepted as correct”(Amritsari, Maulvi Sanaullah, Ilhamat-e-Mirza Page 5)
